Survival Pods – Life Saving Protection for Natural Disasters

Survival pods have become increasingly popular in recent years as a means of providing protection and increasing the odds of surviving natural disasters and other emergencies.

Whether it’s a tsunami, hurricane, tornado, earthquake, or virtually any other catastrophic weather event — a survival pod can be a potentially lifesaving device to help you and your loved ones stay safe and secure. Essentially they are short-term emergency shelters that can be a vital addition to a disaster preparedness plan.

The sizes, shapes, and other specifications vary depending on where you get it and what type you choose, but a typical survival capsule is a compact, self-contained unit made to offer a safe and secure environment for individuals or small groups of people in the event of a disaster. They are designed to withstand very extreme conditions to keep you safe in the worst conditions.

Typical minimum safety features include:

  • Incredibly strong materials resistant to violent impacts
  • A main hatch that opens inwards to prevent any obstruction to exiting
  • Harnessed safety seats
  • Impact absorption
  • Watertight & buoyant
  • Crush capacity in excess of 5 tons
  • Exterior flashing beacons
  • Reinforced rescue lines
  • Streamline design to help prevent snagging, pinning, or crushing

The key to the effectiveness of a survival pod is its design. Again, they are not all created the same way for the same purposes, but generally, these pods are made from very high-strength & reinforced materials, which makes them extremely durable, resistant to impact from external forces, and very difficult to damage. They are also typically designed to be watertight and buoyant in the event of a tsunami, hurricane, or flood.

Another important aspect of survival capsules is their size and portability. Many of them are small enough to make them relatively easy to store and/or transport. No, they certainly aren’t lightweight or something you can just grab and go. However, you theoretically could take your survival pod with you if you needed to evacuate your property and had the equipment necessary to load it up on a trailer. This adds some extra peace of mind that most other types of emergency shelters or survival bunkers simply cannot give you.

The second most important reason for having a survival pod – other than providing safety and security from the initial impact of a disaster – is to allow you to live in it for a certain amount of time. This might just be a few minutes until everything calms down and you can simply get out. Or it might be until you are rescued, which could take several hours, or even days if things got really bad.

That’s why the ability to store food, and water, and provide air for the occupants is quite important. So, most survival capsules come equipped with air filtration systems as well as storage spaces for water and non-perishable food items. It’s important to make sure you keep them stocked with a certain amount of food and water for your family in the event you are unable to leave the pod for an extended period of time.

In addition to providing the most basic necessities (air, water, food, shelter) the best survival pods also come with a range of other features that can help to improve your overall comfort and well-being. For example, some of them come equipped with communication, lighting, ventilation, and climate control systems. Most of these things you can add (and should) even if it doesn’t come included with them.

At the bare minimum, I would very much recommend keeping an emergency radio as well as some sort of survival walkie-talkie in there to get updates and be able to communicate with the outside world if necessary. It’s possible your rescue pod will come with these, depending on the specific one you choose, but if it doesn’t then you definitely should add them. You will also need “waste bags” for obvious reasons, so don’t forget those!

To avoid overspending on features you don’t need, or even worse ending up with a survival pod that isn’t adequate for what you DO need, it’s very important to do your research before purchase. Choose a survival capsule that is specifically designed for the types of disasters that are common in your area and/or an emergency situation you could conceivably find yourself in. This will help to ensure that your emergency shelter is equipped with the features and materials necessary to provide you with maximum protection and comfort in the event of a disaster.

Some of the items I would make sure are in your pod at the very least if it doesn’t come equipped with them — no matter where you live or what disaster you are preparing for — would be:

  • Food and Water – Enough to last at least one day per person
  • Emergency Blankets – Keep you all warm and/or dry
  • Candles – Warmth, lighting, cooking, boiling water, etc
  • Weatherproof Matches and Lighters – No secret as to why you might want these
  • Flashlight – Obvious reasons for needing this
  • First Aid Kit – Injuries are quite possible
  • Important Documents – Copies of your ID’s, insurance info, emergency contacts, etc
  • Communication Device – To call for help, tell emergency crews where you are, and so on
  • Pre-Made Survival Kit – Various emergency supplies that might be needed (may even contain many of the items above)

In conclusion, a survival pod can be an invaluable tool for anyone who wants to stay safe and secure in the face of natural disasters and other emergencies. Whether you live in an area that is prone to hurricanes, tsunamis, earthquakes, tornadoes, etc… or you simply want to have a safer place to go in the event of any type of emergency — a survival pod can provide you with peace of mind and protection that you need.

With their compact designs, portability, and range of features; a survival pod can be a great option for anyone who wants to be prepared for the unexpected. So if you are looking for a way to protect yourself and your loved ones in the face of danger, an emergency survival capsule may be the solution you have been looking for.

Of course, it should go without saying that you should always get away from the potential threat beforehand if that is possible. Don’t make the mistake of riding it out if you could avoid it entirely. These survival pods should only be used as a last resort if you can’t avoid the disaster.
